CU Buffs football head coaching search update: A look at potential candidates

When head football coach Mel Tucker abruptly left Colorado for Michigan State a week ago, the perception was that the Buffaloes would be scrambling to find a replacement.

Naturally, athletic director Rick George would rather not have to conduct a coaching search just 14-plus months after hiring Tucker, but there are advantages to doing a search now, as opposed to in December.

In December, 15 Football Bowl Subdivision teams hired new coaches. Each of those schools were in competition for coaches and conducted their searches with national signing day around the corner. In some cases, those teams were also preparing for bowl games or at least looking to interview candidates who were going to bowls.
