With playoff hopes gone, Avalanche has a new goal

Avalanche players realize they have virtually no chance of making the playoffs with this team, thus the every-day goal is not the postseason. Instead, it’s to feel good about themselves.

A two-game winning streak that started Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 win over Winnipeg and then continued with a 4-0 win over Montreal had the Avs feeling good heading into Thursday night’s game against the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins. They liked the feeling of a two-game winning streak, particularly because they were decisive wins at home.

“It’s funny how things change as far as the mood around the rink and overall atmosphere inside the dressing room, as well as team confidence, individual confidence,” Avs captain Gabe Landeskog said before Thursday’s game against the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins.
