Patrick Marleau scored four goals in the third period to carry the San Jose Sharks to a 5-2 victory over the Avalanche on Monday at the Pepsi Center.
NHL last-place Colorado, which fell to a dreadful 5-17-1 at home, limited San Jose to 13 shots after two periods and found itself tied 1-1. But Marleau redirected a Marc-Edouard Vlasic shot past rookie goalie Spencer Martin at 2:53 of the third period and then beat Martin with a wrap-around at 5:57. He completed his natural hat trick by capping a give-and-go, 2-on-1 rush with Joe Pavelski at 10:35.
