Spotlight on: Claude Giroux. The Flyers center and team captain on Monday was named a Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy nominee by the Philadelphia chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association. The award recognizes the NHL player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Giroux entered Tuesday’s game at Dallas with team-highs in goals (26) and assists (65), the latter of which is tied for first in the NHL with Winnipeg’s Blake Wheeler. Giroux, 30, had a career-low 14 goals last season.
