Panthers claims Avalanche goaltender Jonas Johansson off waivers, per report

The Avalanche’s goaltending depth took a hit Monday after Jonas Johansson was claimed off waivers by the Florida Panthers, according to capfriendly.com.

Johansson, 26, was Colorado’s No. 3 goaltender. In nine games (six starts), he has a 3-2-1 record with an .880 save percentage and a 3.89 goals-against average.

The Avs placed him on waivers Sunday in order to send him to the Colorado Eagles, the team’s AHL affiliate. The move weakens the team’s depth at the position as Pavel Francouz and Darcy Kuemper have histories with injuries.

Johansson began the season as Kuemper’s backup after Francouz suffered an injury in the preseason.
