Only modest moves expected by the Colorado Avalanche in NHL free agency

The Avalanche is expected to be on the quiet side of NHL free agency, which begins Sunday morning. Rounding out the roster, as well as the Colorado Eagles’ — the Avs’ new American Hockey League affiliate in Loveland — will be the theme.

At his season-ending press conference in April, Colorado general manager Joe Sakic said the team will “stay the course” of building through the draft, while not excluding some activity “if it makes sense.” Sakic is scheduled to address what the Avs did and did not do Sunday after most of the moves are made.
