Only modest free agency moves expected from Avs

DENVER — The Avalanche is expected to be on the quiet side of NHL free agency, which begins this morning. Rounding out the roster, as well as that of the Colorado Eagles — the Avs' new American Hockey League affiliate in Loveland — will be the theme.

Colorado general manager Joe Sakic has said the team will "stay the course" of building through the draft, while not excluding some activity "if it makes sense."

The Avs' most glaring need is a No. 2 center, and they have the money to pay that player as if he were an elite No.
