On draft day, Avalanche sends Nick Holden to Rangers

Shortly after the conclusion of the NHL draft Saturday in Buffalo, the Avalanche announced it had sent defenseman Nick Holden to the New York Rangers for a fourth-round choice in 2017.

In three seasons with the Avalanche, Holden had 21 goals and 40 assists. He he was in the second defensive pairing with Tyson Barrie for most of last season, when he logged nearly 22 minutes of ice time per game and was a minus-1, best among the Avalanche’s regular defensemen. He has two years, at $1.65 million per season, remaining on his contract.
