Nathan MacKinnon’s overtime goal lifts Avs to win at home

This isn’t an upset: Joe Sakic isn’t pleased. Not at all.

Yet before the Avalanche beat the New York Islanders 2-1 on Nathan MacKinnon‘s 4-on-3 power-play goal with 16.1 seconds left in overtime Friday at the Pepsi Center and snapped losing streaks of 10 at home and five overall, Colorado’s general manager said he hasn’t lost hope, at least not for the franchise’s future — and was emphatic that he plans to be a part of it.

Sakic got to watch a rare Avalanche win when Calvin Pickard made 35 saves in the Colorado net, Gabe Landeskog scored in the first period and MacKinnon ended the wild — even wilder than usual — overtime by putting the rebound of Jarome Iginla’s shot past Islanders goalie Thomas Greiss after New York’s Calvin de Haan went off for hooking.
