Nate Guenin, Avalanche defenseman, placed on waivers

The Avalanche Wednesday confirmed a report from Canada-based TSN's Bob McKenzie that it has placed defenseman Nate Guenin on waivers.

Colorado is at the league maximum of 50 player contracts and would have to clear at least one to make a trade, but Guenin also could be sent down to San Antonio of the AHL if he is unclaimed.

The Avalanche last week also waived defenseman Brandon Gormley, who was unclaimed and remained with the team.

Veteran defenseman Brad Stuart (back) is on the verge of being able to return to the lineup and Erik Johnson, out with a lower body injury, has started to skate again and conceivably could return soon.
