Jared Bednar introduced as new Avalanche coach, plans to retain 3 assistant coaches

At his introductory news conference Wednesday, new Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said Colorado’s holdover assistant coaches — Nolan Pratt, Tim Army and Davis Farrish — would be retained.

Because Pratt, a former Avalanche defenseman, was Bednar’s assistant with the American Hockey League champion Lake Erie Monsters last season before being hired by Colorado while Patrick Roy still was head coach, his retention was a virtual given. But the retention for Army and Farrish wasn’t automatic following Roy’s unexpected Aug. 11 resignation, though they are under contract for next season.

“I have had a chance to speak to the coaches last week and then in my drive here over the last few days,” Bednar said in the Avalanche’s Pepsi Center dressing room.
