Here’s how I interpreted what Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic told The Denver Post’s Mike Chambers last week.
Sakic is saying: Trust us.
Beyond minor tweaking, the Avalanche likely will stay the course this offseason.
If that’s the way it plays out, it means: Nothing will be blown up. Major trades are unlikely. Restricted free agent Nathan MacKinnon will be signed to a new contract, long term or short. (That was a given all along.) If still unsigned, RFA defenseman Tyson Barrie will go to arbitration and come out with a one- or two-year deal.
