Former Avalanche player Marek Svatos pleaded guilty to DUI in months before his death

Former Colorado Avalanche winger Marek Svatos, who died last month, pleaded guilty to drunken driving and received a one-year suspended sentence before his death, according to court records.

Lone Tree police arrested Svatos, 34, on March 15 for driving under the influence, and child abuse. Under Colorado law, drivers can be charged with child abuse if a child is a passenger when a DUI is issued.

Svatos, who died of combined drug intoxication, pleaded guilty to both misdemeanors, according to court records, and received a one-year deferred sentence. He was required to complete an age-specific parenting class and to submit to sobriety monitoring while on probation.
