David Carle, 29, embraces expectations established in DU hockey’s first 70 years

David Carle, despite his age, enjoys looking over seven decades of success.

Carle is just 29, only in Year 2 of his head-coaching tenure at the University of Denver, but he’s thrilled to be the mouthpiece of a hockey program currently ranked No. 1 nationally and celebrating its 70th anniversary this weekend.

Carle, who guided the Pioneers to their 16th Frozen Four appearance last spring, was 14 years old in 2004 when DU captured its sixth national championship in Boston. His older brother, Matt, was a freshman on that team, and the Carle family also celebrated the following year when the Pioneers won the 2005 national title in Columbus, Ohio.
