Colorado Avalanche's sled hockey team is a success on and off the ice

Double amputee Alexi Salmone is a survivor of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster, and Scott Stacey was treated for a heart attack in 2003 but wound up with his leg amputated because of complications. Corey Fairbanks played football at Nebraska before being paralyzed below the chest in a skiing accident.

Salmone and Stacey are the leading scorer and starting goalie, respectively, for Colorado's most successful sled hockey team. Fairbanks is the tireless director of the Colorado Adaptive Sports Foundation, which partners with Kroenke Sports Charities.

Their stories encapsulate the beauty of the Colorado Avalanche sled hockey team's success at last month's USA Disabled Hockey Festival in Buffalo, N.
