Colorado Avalanche GM Joe Sakic gets to sashay up to the podium twice on the first day of the 2019 NHL Draft. Ok, our HHOFer isn’t exactly known for sashaying, but he’s going to walk sedately to the podium to select both at #4 and #16 for the Avs.
Picks numbered one and two are set — Jack Hughes and Kaapo Kakko. So, the Chicago Blackhawks will make the first surprise selection of the draft at #3.
While Colorado is no longer a team firmly in the rebuilding process, they’re still a young team on the upturn.
