The defense was one of the Colorado Avalanche’s big problems in the 2014-15 season. However, stat-wise, it didn’t look all that bad. Tyson Barrie was the team’s sixth-best scorer with 53 points, Erik Johnson put up 23 points in 47 contests before getting injured, and even Zach Redmond recorded 20 in 59 games.
Obviously, points aren’t everything for D-men. But, when the team struggles as it did, some scoring defensemen can give the offense a nice boost. Especially so, when you have someone like Erik Karlsson or Tyson Barrie — a poor man’s Karlsson — on your team.
