The third round of the NHL Draft isn’t usually as sexy as even the second round, much less the first. The Colorado Avalanche have the #71 pick for the third round, barring any trades.
Now the Colorado Avalanche have only ever had one third-rounder of any note, but he’s a doozy — Tyson Barrie. The offensive defenseman went #64 in the 2009 draft. (That was also the year Colorado stole Ryan O’Reilly at #33.)
Last year Colorado selected Jean-Christophe Beaudin at the exact same position as they have this year, #71. However, while the young center is touted as an eventual leader for the team, he hasn’t been offered an entry-level contract yet.
