Forward Mikko Rantanen, who was expected to serve as the Avalanche’s premier addition from last season, will miss 2-4 weeks with an ankle injury, according to the team. He exited the ice late in Saturday’s rookie showcase exhibition game against the San Jose Sharks and was seen later on crutches and wearing a supportive boot.

Rantanen, 19, was Colorado’s first-round draft pick in 2015 (10th overall). He led the American Hockey League’s San Antonio Rampage with 24 goals and 60 points in 52 games. He played nine games with the Avalanche. The 6-foot-4 Finn was expected to challenge for a spot in the Avs’ top two lines for opening night on Oct.
