Calvin Pickard’s typically playful demeanor and attitude were absent on day one of training camp. Instead, we saw was a sharp, game-like focus that would make it hard for you to believe it was technically the first day of the season.
“I wanted to come out here and be sharp and get used to that pace right away and I thought I did that,” Pickard said Friday. “It was a really good pace today and we got a lot of work in. It was a jam-packed hour-and-a-half and it was a real good day one.”
Perhaps it’s the presence of the other goaltenders in the organization that is giving him some extra drive, or perhaps he believes he can impress coach Jared Bednar that he can take over the starting role.
