Cale Makar joins the Avalanche’s long injured list entering slow stretch of the season

The injuries are unfortunate, but the timing is almost ideal.

The Avalanche is in the early stage of a 17-day stretch where it will play just four games, allowing a half-dozen injured regulars ample time to get back on the ice while not missing too many games.

It’s the lightest part of the Avs’ season besides the 24-day Olympic break in February.

Top-pair defenseman Cale Makar is the latest to join the official injured list, and he will not play against the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday because of an upper-body injury, coach Jared Bednar said after Tuesday’s practice.
