Butch Mousseau remembered before Avs-Wild game with moment of silence

The Avalanche honored the late Butch Mousseau with a moment of silence at the Pepsi Center before Saturday's game against the Minnesota Wild, and NHL officials across North America also paid tribute to the Fairview High School and University of Colorado graduate from Erie.

Mousseau died of head trauma Friday in Grand Rapids, Mich., a week after the NCAA referee fell during warm-ups and hit his head on the ice before a Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoff game. He was 48.

NHL referees and linesmen donned self-made "BM" stickers on their helmets Saturday, and that will continue through this week.
