Avalanche's opening roster takes shape

DENVER — Six newcomers, plus 19-year-old forward Mikko Rantanen, who played nine games for the Avalanche last season, are all but assured to complete Colorado's opening-night roster — a 23-man group that became clear during Tuesday's practice.

New coach Jared Bednar did not speak to the media Tuesday, but the only question mark about his lineup in Saturday's opener against the visiting Dallas Stars is which two forwards he will scratch. The Avs, who had to finalize their roster by 3 p.m. Tuesday, will carry 14 forwards, seven defensemen and two goalies.
