DENVER — Forward Mikko Rantanen, who was expected to serve as the Avalanche's premier addition after last season, will miss 2-4 weeks with an ankle injury, according to the team.
He exited the ice late in Saturday's rookie showcase exhibition game against the San Jose Sharks. At the Avs' rookie exhibition game Sunday, he was on crutches and wearing a supportive boot.
Rantanen, 19, was Colorado's first-round draft pick in 2015, tenth overall. He led the American Hockey League's San Antonio Rampage with 24 goals and 60 points in 52 games. He played nine games with the Avalanche.
