Avalanche signs Ben Smith

The Colorado Avalanche continued putting the finishing touches on their roster as they announced the signing of forward Ben Smith to a one-year, two-way contract. Immediate salary figures remain unknown but will be updated as we learn more information.

Smith, 28, spent last season split between the San Jose Sharks and Toronto Maple Leafs organizations, seeing time with both the AHL and NHL clubs. Smith has appeared in 197 NHL games, tallying 50 points (27 goals, 23 assists).

Given the two-way contract, it’s not an automatic assumption he will be on the Avalanche opening night roster but the organization’s weakness at right wing certainly opens up the opportunity for the defensive-minded Smith.
