PITTSBURGH — Avalanche goalie Jonathan Bernier was 11.8 seconds away from perfect Monday night, and his teammates scored three goals. Two counted, and that was enough to defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 at PPG Paints Arena.

Defenseman Mark Barberio scored early in the third period and forward Blake Comeau added an empty-netter with 1:29 to play as Colorado took a 2-0 lead and went on to upset the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions. The Avs, who overcame a first-period disallowed goal on a coach's challenge, improved to 2-1 on their four-game road trip.
