Avalanche extends winning streak to five games after beating Canadiens

MONTREAL — Left winger Gabe Landeskog, after missing 16 games with an injury, fell right back in place with the white-hot Avalanche on Thursday at the Bell Centre.

Colorado’s captain used a fantastic individual effort to score a first-period goal and almost had another as the Avs extended their winning streak to five games with a 3-2 triumph over the Montreal Canadiens.

Landeskog returned to the lineup along with winger Andre Burakovsky, who had missed the last three games with a lower-body ailment. But the Avs are still considered injury-depleted because power forward Nazem Kadri missed his first game of the season after going down in Wednesday’s 3-1 win at Toronto and forward Colin Wilson and defenseman Erik Johnson are not on this three-game trip against the Original Six teams.
