Avalanche blows early 2-0 lead, loses 5-3 at New York Rangers

NEW YORK — First in Uniondale and then in Manhattan, the Avalanche failed to collect a point in its consecutive-night stretch in New York.

The Avs on Tuesday night blew an early two-goal deficit and fell 5-3 to the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. They lost 1-0 on Monday at the Islanders.

All-star Nathan MacKinnon, playing in his 500th career regular-season game Tuesday, scored his 26th goal just 6:34 into the game to give Colorado a 2-0 lead. But the Rangers forged a 2-2 tie after one period and never trailed again in support of rookie goalie Igor Shesterkin, who made his NHL debut.
