Avalanche acquires Minnesota forward Nico Sturm for Tyson Jost in trade

Joe Sakic vowed to improve his club before the trade deadline, and he made another move Tuesday to do just that.

For the second day in a row, the Colorado Avalanche general manager executed a trade, this time picking up Minnesota Wild forward Nico Sturm for forward Tyson Jost, the Avs’ 2016 first round pick.

The player-for-player deal was announced by the Avs on Tuesday. It not only brings back Sturm, it ensures more cap space for the Avs this offseason with the 26-year-old forward on an expiring contract. He has a $725,000 cap hit.

Sturm has 17 points (nine goals, eight assists) in 53 games this season.
