Analysis: Avalanche enters “bye” with little hope for remainder of season

The Avalanche’s latest winning streak — one game — will end up lasting at least five days. Colorado’s no-practice, no-game “bye” period ends with a 4 p.m. Wednesday practice and then a Thursday home game against Anaheim.

At the break, the Avs are 13-25-1, the worst record in the NHL. This is hard to do: They are last in the league in both goals scored per game (2.0) and goals allowed (3.3). They are 4-16-1 since a treading-water 9-9-0 start. They are a dreadful 5-13-1 at home, though one of the wins was the 2-1 overtime victory over the New York Islanders Friday that created decent vibes going into the break.
