Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov was on Russia’s roster for the World Cup of Hockey, but he was a spectator as Sergei Bobrovsky of the Columbus Blue Jackets played all three of the preliminary round games plus the semifinal loss to Canada.
And now Varlamov is back with Colorado, hoping to have a bounce-back season under new coach Jared Bednar.
“I feel good,” he said after the Avalanche’s Sunday practice at Family Sports Center. “Too bad I didn’t have a chance to play, but I was ready to play for sure. The coach decided to go with ‘Bob’ and I have to respect that.
