Indians acquire utility man Andrew Velazquez from Rays

The Cleveland Indians have acquired third baseman/outfielder/shortstop/second baseman Andrew Velazquez from the Tampa Bay Rays, according Tampa Bay Times reporter Marc Topkin.

Velazquez turns 25 on July 14, but has not shown much at the major-league level to this point. He has slashed gone 4-for-22 in 23 games with the Rays; his last MLB game was on May 29 prior to being optioned back to Triple-A Durham.

On June 6, Velazquez was placed on the minor league injured list with a thumb sprain. He returned on June 22, played in four games, then hasn’t played since June 26 with an undisclosed injury.
