For those not familiar, European soccer leagues exist in a kind of hierarchy where every season the top three teams and bottom three teams in the standings are either promoted to a more prestigious league or relegated to a lower league. The English football divisions are composed of the Premier League, Championship, League One, League Two, and further down to an eighth division.
