Perfect pitch: Pat Carney of Black Keys will take the mound on Indians’ Opening Day

Patrick Carney, drummer for Akron-bred arena rockers the Black Keys, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch when the Indians host the Boston Red Sox on Opening Day, about 4:10 p.m. April 4 at Progressive Field.

Carney and his bandmate, singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach, spent a portion of their pre-rock star days learning to throw and hit in the West Akron Baseball League. The Grammy-winning band has sponsored a WABL team for several seasons, and sales of its jersey have raised more than $28,000 for the youth baseball league.
