The Cleveland Indians have selected SS Yordys Valdes out of McArthur HS in Hollywood, Florida. Valdes is the top rated defensive high school shortstop in the draft.
Valdez is flashy defensively, but his bat has a long way to go. There is some contact ability, but he lacks the size and strength to drive the ball with impact on a regular basis
MLB Pipeline had him listed as the 82nd ranked prospect in the 2019 MLB Draft, so the Indians may be able to sign him under slot. Valdes is currently committed to Florida State University.
