Marlon Byrd signing official, roster trimmed to 48 players: Cleveland Indians briefing

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- The Indians made official outfielder Marlon Byrd's signing to a minor-league contract on Friday. On the same day, they trimmed some of the excess outfielders in camp.

James Ramsey was optioned to Class AAA Columbus and Michael Choice was reassigned to the minors. Others reassigned to minor league camp included catchers Jeremy Lucas and Anthony Recker and infielder Eric Stamets.

There are 48 players in camp, including 11 outfielders.

"When you look at Byrd's track record, and you're able to get a guy on a non-roster (contract) where you're not losing a young guy, I can see where Chris (Antonetti) would want to do it," said manager Terry Francona.
