Major League Baseball seeks to stay Ontario tribunal's decision to hear Chief Wahoo case

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Major League Baseball (MLB) is aiming to halt proceedings in a Canadian court case regarding the Indians' Chief Wahoo logo.

A filing, made to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice last week, challenges the decision of the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal to hear a complaint that the icon is discriminatory.

In the filing, MLB argues that the tribunal does not have jurisdiction to consider the complaint, made by Douglas Cardinal. Cardinal is a member of the Blackfoot Tribe and an advocate for indigenous people and designer of the National Museum of the American Indian.
