Eddie Murray, Jose Mesa help Cleveland Indians win first World Series game in 47 years: Reliving Cleveland Indians history

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland Indians on this date on this date, Oct. 24, in 1995 won their first World Series game in 47 years.

World champions in 1948, the Indians were swept when they returned to the World Series in 1954. Then Indians' fans had to wait until 1995 for their team to return to the Fall Classic.

They lost their first two games in the '95 Series. But, playing Game 3 before the home fans in Jacobs Field, the Indians delivered — winning in the 11th inning when Eddie Murray singled home pinch-runner Alvaro Espinoza.
