Cookie doesn’t crumble; Tribe wins home opener

It has to be tough playing in typical Cleveland home opener weather. At the official game start time of 4:10 p.m. on Friday, the temperature was 41 degrees. But the wind chill was in the lower 30’s and gusts up to 25 mph were making uniforms flap like Old Glory in a patriotic song.

So is it worse for pitchers or hitters in those conditions? That’s debatable. But we do know the starting pitchers both gave up all the runs this game could muster in the first inning. The difference was that Tribe starter, Carlos “Cookie” Carrasco, actually made pretty decent pitches while Royals starter Danny Duffy couldn’t find the plate with both hands, a divining rod and binoculars.
