Cleveland Indians outright infielder Michael Martinez, who elects free agency

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Michael Martinez appeared in 16 games over the final month of the Indians' 2015 season.

Now, the 33-year-old is a free agent.

The Indians outrighted the infielder to Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday, but Martinez elected free agency. Martinez has spent parts of five seasons in the big leagues with the Phillies, Pirates and Indians. He batted .267 with a .624 OPS in 32 plate appearances with Cleveland this year.

In 204 career games, Martinez owns a .187/.235/.256 slash line. He played third base and all three outfield spots for the Tribe. He has also manned the middle infield positions at the major league level.
