Francisco Mejia gave the RubberDucks a 1-0 lead in the third inning with an RBI groundout. The lead increased to 3-0 in the fifth with an RBI double from Mike Papi, and a throwing error moments later by Curve pitcher Yeudy Garcia allowed Papi to score.
Rodriguez's RBI single in the sixth gave Akron a 4-1 lead.
