LeBron James inspires many.

Well beyond his athletic prowess, his rise from public housing in Akron to arguably the best-known athlete in the world truly embodies the American dream.

And that’s exactly what inspired Cincinnati-born Keith Mayerson to include four paintings of LeBron in his exhibit My American Dream at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Cleveland. The exhibit opened Friday.

Images of pivotal moments from James’ life hang in close proximity to other pop culture icons, from Captain Kangaroo to Charlie Brown to King Kong.

In all there are some 200 paintings by the artist that weave together a story of his own life, what it means to embody the American spirit and iconic events that have marked that experience, including a poignant image of a plane crashing into the World Trade Center.
