CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cavaliers are aware of an accusation levied against guard J.R. Smith last week in New York, reported Friday afternoon by the Daily News.
Smith allegedly choked a 19-year-old who was heckling him early Friday morning in Chelsea, a neighborhood on the city's west side. The Cavs played the New York Knicks -- Smith's former team -- later that night.
The Cavs said Smith's status for Saturday's home game against the Atlanta Hawks would not be affected.
"We have spoken to J.R. about it," Griffin said in a statement released by the team Friday afternoon.
