CLEVELAND, Ohio -- I spent several days thinking about John "Hot Rod" Williams from the moment that I heard the former Cavalier was seriously ill.
That information came Tuesday night, a call from Mark Bartelstein -- his agent. I wrote a story about Williams, and also about the Cavs of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Williams died Friday morning of cancer.
I was blessed to cover the Cavs home and away from 1985-93 for the Akron Beacon Journal.
As Joe Tait told me early Friday, "Those were some damn good teams with great guys and Hot Rod was a big part of that.
