Cleveland Cavaliers, David Griffin part ways after incredible run

An ex-executive to me on Griffin and the Cleveland Cavaliers parting ways: “Stunned, but, not surprised.” He later clarified that he is stunned at the timing, but, not surprised at he won’t be back.

Griffin’s contract expired on June 30.

This is a surprising development as there were reports of the Cavs trying to put together a monster trade to get Jimmy Butler from Chicago.

Trent Redden, the team’s senior vice president of basketball operations, will also leave the organization. His contract was also up at the end of the month.

Currently the Cavs’ front office is being run by a conglomeration of Koby Altman, Brock Aller, Tony Leotti, Jon Nichols and Mike Gansey, according to a team source.
