Jerrelle Benimon To Play In China Instead Of Signing With Cavs

The Cleveland Cavaliers were expecting to have power forward Jerrelle Benimon on their training camp roster, but he has instead opted to sign a guaranteed contract to play in China, according to KTVZ.

The season in China does end before the end of the NBA season, so Benimon could play in the league in the spring.

The Cavs will have 14 players signed to guaranteed contracts once Tristan Thompson returns to the team, leaving just one roster spot available for three players that are signed to non-guaranteed contracts.

Undrafted point guard Quinn Cook, forward D.J. Stephens, and guard Jared Cunningham will all be competing for the final roster spot.

Benimon averaged just under 20 points per game and 11 rebounds per game last year with the Idaho Stampede of the D-League.
