Trending Cavs Rumors: Joel Embiid's recovery time announced, #1 pick unlikely

With the 2014 NBA Draft rapidly approaching, Cavs rumors are intensifying surrounding the first overall pick - especially due to news on a injury suffered by projected #1 overall pick Joel Embiid.

Per Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, sources told Yahoo that the former Kansas center will be out anywhere from 4-6 months after surgery on his fractured right foot.

Dr. Richard Ferkel conducted the surgery on Friday morning and deemed it a success on all accounts.

“Two screws were inserted into the navicular bone in Joel Embiid’s right foot," Ferkel stated. "The surgery went very well and I’m confident that after appropriate healing he will be able to return to NBA Basketball. Joel tolerated the surgery without difficulty and will begin his rehabilitation in the near future.”

With Embiid unlikely to be able to resume normal basketball activities till around Christmastime, it is extremely unlikely that the Cleveland Cavs will select the seven-footer with the #1 pick in next week's draft.

Instead, the Cavs will most likely look at Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker, or find a suitable trade partner to land additional picks and/or NBA-ready talent which could help the team as soon as 2014-15.
