Instant Reaction: Wizards Cruise To 91-78 Victory Over Cavs

Washington came out with a level of intensity that the Cavaliers were unable to match in the first half, which led the the Wizards taking a 55-42 lead into the break.

The Cavs came out with an 11-4 run to start the third quarter and get themselves back in the game, but the Wizards responded and held Cleveland at bay for the rest of the game.

Turning Point:

Cleveland was fighting back into the game in the third quarter and cut Washington's lead to single digits, but the Wizards went on an 8-0 run late in the quarter to push the lead back to 16 points.

Key Stat:

Washington's bench outscored Cleveland's 40-9 in this game, creating a huge margin that the Cavs' starters were unable to overcome.

Cleveland MVP:

LeBron James had yet another good game, putting in 22 points along with four rebounds and four assists.

Washington MVP:

John Wall was absolutely dominant in this game and gashed Kyrie Irving's defense all night.  He finished with 28 points (including 17 in the third quarter alone) to go along with seven assists, six rebounds, and four steals.

Kevin Seraphin also had a huge impact on the game, coming off the bench to score 12 points and block three shots while being an imposing post presence on both ends of the floor.

What Did We Learn?

Cleveland's defense has improved to a respectable level, but they still need to play with more intensity every night. They fell behind early because they didn't match Washington's energy level, and they weren't able to make for it in the second half. This is starting to become a consistent problem for them, and is the biggest reason why the Cavs are now just 5-6.

As for Washington, it's clear that they're on the verge of becoming a true contender to win the Eastern Conference. John Wall and Bradley Beal looked unstoppable, and if their big men can continue to defend at a high level, this team might make another surprise run through the playoffs.

What’s Next?

Cleveland has a quick turnaround and will face the Toronto Raptors at home Saturday night, while Washington hits the road to face the Bucks.
