BEREA, Ohio -- The last Cleveland Browns quarterback drafted first overall has some advice for the most recent.
"I would just tell him to be patient," Tim Couch said of Baker Mayfield.
Which might be easier said than done with a competitor like Mayfield. But Couch played for a struggling expansion team as a rookie in 1999, and he knows how tough it can get.
"It's a big jump," said Couch, now the team's preseason analyst. "I don't care how high a level you played at in college. I played in the SEC, a very fast conference, a very physical conference, but it was still a huge jump for me getting used to the speed of the game and the size of the players and just learning how complex defenses can get.
