Roger Goodell and the NFL take on concussions: Crowquill

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The NFL continues to grow its brand, especially under the leadership of commissioner Roger Goodell. But despite all of the consistent growth, there remains a problem that shows no signs of going away and could someday conceivably be the end the game of football as we know it. That problem is concussions.

Repeated concussions can lead to chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative disease of the brain. In 2002, Dr. Bennet Omalu discovered CTE in the brain of former Pittsburgh Steeler Mike Webster. This discovery eventually led to the NFL taking steps to reduce concussions and CTE.
